Another of the pillars in that the work of FondoMicro has been sustained in the last decade has been its program of investigations. The necessity to know the market in that it will operate scientifically motivated the creation of a program of investigations that initially was not contemplated in the initial project of the institution.

This way, the idea arises of carrying out empiric investigations to identify the characteristics of the micro and small companies of the country, some of which were clients of the institutions that had microfinanzas programs. This, in turn, was a form of guaranteeing the investment of the Agreement of Cooperation signed with the AID assisting a market it puts clearly identified. This program was anchored by AID from its beginnings in the year 1992.

With this objective contacts settled down with the Department of Economy of the University of the State of Michigan where operated the only program in the world dedicated to these tasks that he/she had carried out 21 investigations on the sector of the microempresas in same number of countries.

In the year 1992 the University of Michigan was hired to carry out a first base survey that he/she had as objective to measure the dimension of the sector and to study its fundamental variables being transferred the investigation methodology to a national team with vast experience in investigations.

The results of the first survey of FondoMicro allowed to quantify the sector of the microempresa in the country, estimating their contribution to the Internal Product Bruto and putting on the mat the contribution from these companies to the economy outside of the context of countable" "residuals in the national bills. Starting from this, enfásis was made in continuing investigating on these companies, the effervescent dynamics that exists for the companies that you/they enter and they leave the market, the structural differentiation according to its development levels, its capacity of employment generation and patrimony accumulation.

A year 2000, they have been carried out 10 national surveys on the micro and small companies where diverse aspects were investigated on the sector, such as financial services, productivity, informality, forces labor, migration, remittances, education and other topics that they allowed to know the universe microempresarial more deeply.

With the interest of diffusing the results of these investigations, FondoMicro has published 21 books it has more than enough studies that have been carried out from the socio-economic, anthropological perspectives, of gender, econométrica, financial and educational.
